In partnership with the UK Space Agency, the European Space Agency, ESERO-UK and STEM Learning we launched ourselves into Mars Week (14 - 20 March) with out-of-this-world live & virtual events for both schools and the public.

On Mars Day (14 March), we hosted a workshop for primary school children where explorers from
St Stephen's discovered the rocks and landscapes of Earth and Mars; making their own LEGO rover to send on a mission.

A few days later, our lecture theatre transformed into a movie theatre for a special screening of The Martian followed by a Q&A with planetary scientists working on real missions to Mars. The Q&A is available on
YouTube now.

POLICY/ Decarbonising heat with geothermal energy

We have recently published a new policy brief exploring how geothermal heat coupled with heat pumps in district or network heating schemes could deliver low-carbon heating and cooling on a national scale.

The decarbonisation of heating and cooling, electricity production, industry and transport is essential to meet both UK and international climate change targets, and as part of the drive towards net zero carbon emissions. Geoscience has an important role to play in realising these goals.

website to find out more.
